Information About Our Compostable and Recyclable Packaging

We spent a year testing various types of compostable packaging to see how long they took to breakdown and document the process. We use compostable/recyclable shipping labels and either cardboard or poly-mailers to ship everything from the CREAM Shop. Please read on to see the results and help us keep packaging out of the landfill.

Cardboard

COMPOSTABLE OR RECYCLABLE

TAKES UP TO 2 MONTHS TO COMPLETELY BREAKDOWN

Our Tubes, Mailers, and Boxes can all be composted but we suggest recycling them. Roughly torn into pieces cardboard will rot down well in the compost heap so long as it is mixed in with greens and not layered. However, processed paper products, like our mailers, contain little to no nutrition for your garden and it won't add much—if any—fertilizing or disease-preventing power to your soil. They are great substrates for mycelium though if you are into fungi!

Poly-Mailers

COMPOSTABLE

TAKES UP TO 6 MONTHS TO COMPLETELY BREAKDOWN

Our compostable Plant-based Polymer Bag mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Our use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource. Please compost these bags if you can!

We are always looking for more environmentally conscious packaging, if you had any info to share or packaging to suggest for us to tryout please drop us line at shop@creamforever.com
